Trieste being just a short ride from Ljubljana makes it a popular day trip destination. We headed there on a sunny Easter Monday to enjoy the day at the seaside and relax a bit. Even though Trieste offers a lot, for us this day trip was all about the food! From delicious seafood to one of the best ice-creams I have ever had. If you are a foodie like us you can find a short itinerary on how to enjoy your day in Trieste below.
Piazza d’Unita and Stroll on the Promenade
First things first. A stroll on the Promenade and obligatory picture of Piazza d’Unita (main square) is a must!
Located on the promenade, just next to the Aquarium is this amazing place called Eataly. Eataly is actually market where you can buy high quality delicacies from all around Italy. This includes goodies like fresh seafood, truffles, home made olive oil, freshly baked bread, home grown vegetables, etc… If you are feeling hungry make sure to try octopus with olives and tuna carpaccio! And don’t forget about the delicious paninis topped with burrata, tomatoes, and so on. What I like about this place is the diversity of products, deliciousness of food and great atmosphere. It’s definitely a go-to place when in Trieste!
Visit Castello di Miramare
Located 15-minute drive from central Trieste this 19th century castle is a must visit! The beautiful castle surrounded by blue sea is a sight of its own. You can easily spend a couple of hours or a whole day enjoying the beautiful place. You can visit the museum, located inside the castle, or take a walk through a wonderful park surrounding the castle.
Have the best ice-cream
When in Italy one can easily expect to have some seriously delicious ice-creams. But this one, if you ask me, was one of the best I have ever tasted! It is from a small place called Jazzin, located just behind the Savoia Palace Excelsior Hotel and is a true gem! We actually ran across this place completely by accident and how happy I am that we did! They have so many different flavours, so it is almost difficult to choose from. 😋 If you are around make sure to visit this place. I am sure you won’t be dissapointed.
Drink Coffee by the Canal
After strolling around Trieste head to Canale Grande and sit down to a creamy and delicious coffee or an afternoon aperitivo.
